What is androgyny?

Before writing about music, it seems to be necessary to explain what is, in term of definitions, the androgyny.

Medically, it's an ambiguous deformation of the genitalia of the boy. Before its birth, a light hormone deficiency got the last stages of the sexual differentiation: small penis, anormal position of the opening of the urethra, and effeminate aspect of the scrotum. The general morphology is male. It can be moved closer to the definition of hermaphroditism, to a point of view " of physical anormality ": the hermaphroditism indicates in medicine the presence in the same individual of the male and feminine organs. But the deformations are limited more frequently to genitalia, within the framework of "pseudo-hermaphroditism" of variable gravity.

Philosophically, androgyny is called "the third way" : in line with the Order of Nature, life is possible only in the harmony of Yin and Yang. Nothing is exclusively Yin or Yang, but everything is Yin and Yang at the same time. In the genesis of our human history, this balance Yin / Yang was well respected. The sexes were not therefore also differentiated by behaviour as determined by culture. The Androgyne is this being legendary, fabulous in his immortality, both male and female, disorder, attracting up to the fascination. More than a god, to bring together into a single entity all the qualities of male and the female, the power of man to the softness of women. All the great traditions describe the primordial Androgyne : Plato, Moses, the Torah, the Tantra or Taoism and the list is not exhaustive. The myth is universal, timeless.Even today, most of the tribes called "primitive" identify and honor the transsexualism, androgyny, crossdressing, in the person known as "the two minds." This is sacred to them, like deities.  What we see as strange phenomenon of nature, as an aberration, or a sexual perversion, in fact corresponds to the reality of our nature.
Otherwise, there is a definition that I love, the Platonic theory : it is presented by the character of Aristophane, in the speeches of the Banquet (189c - 193rd). At first, the human beings were three sexes, in the form of balls : male, female, and hermaphrodite. Having provoked the anger of the gods by wanting to run up to the top of the sky, they were punished by Zeus who separated them each in two halves, forming the current human beings. Since this cruel separation, these have respite to find their half, what explains the loving phenomenon, and there even various kind of sexualities.

Finally, as we said before, androgyny is nowadays a kind of fashion with the aim of attracting the consumers and making sell, through this feature of provocation that, if it seems to become more and more common in the rock music for example, is not still anchored in our customs and our familiarities.
