Why create a blog about androgyny in music?
Nowadays, androgyny is becoming a kind of a fashion in music in particular in rock music: more and more singers make them up and play the game of ambiguity. In fact our society is based on the worship of image and the appearance (on live or in videoclips) seems to be as important as the music. Bands adapt to their audience, maybe because of the crisis in the record industry : if the discs don't sell anymore, they must at least make themselves known by imposing a visual and a video that appeals to the public.
Furthermore this phenomenon is not typical from the West : asian artists are aware of that since a long time due to their natural facial androgyny. Asian punk-rock music from the last 20th century is marked by the ambiguity of its artists, mostly men : it's the fashion of the "visual kei".
David Bowie is known for being the first male singer who has emphases a lot this caracteristic,and nowadays it seems that every male singer in rock bands must have eyes masked in black, whether effeminate or masculine they may be.
So that's why we would like to focus on this subject : we intend to make a no-exhaustive list of artists (male or female) from all over the world whom enter this category of artists androgynous, with analyses in connection with their success or reputation, illustrations through pictures, videos and sounds (because androgyny may be in the voice) and comments.
